Our Feature EP for July - Nasty Mars and The Martians

23 Jul 2019

Our feature EP for the month is none other than the elusive Melbourne hip-hop collaborators Nasty Mars & The Martians, setting off into the astrals with their debut EP Heaven Gotta Groove

Since arriving with their 2017 debut single ‘Soul Island’, the eclectic group have steadily cemented themselves into Melbourne’s vibrant musical melting pot. Over the years frontman Nasty Mars has only furthered this acclaim with his solo raps, showcasing a bold persona on tracks ‘Sweet Ride’ by Rini and the mega ‘wdubi’ by frequent collaborator Baro

A five track powerhouse, Heaven Gotta Groove touches on themes of  love, heartbreak, redemption, strained parental relationships and even high profile topics such as Black Lives Matter. Dynamic stylistically, the vocals convey a range of emotions via soulful crooning and resonant raps reminiscent of Frank Ocean and Chance The Rapper. Soul, RnB and Jazz infused, the EP stands out with the inclusion of sweeping sax lines and heartfelt spoken word excerpts.

Truly a refreshing listen, dive into the group’s musical masterpiece below.
