Instagram have recently announced its grand plans to monetize IGTV and Live in a bid to support their creators (and compete with Facebook & Twitch).  With the rise and (hopeful) fall of COVID, Instagram Live views increased by a whopping 70% February to March and in a bid to keep creators on the platform Instagram will now be testing two types of income generators; Badges (much like Twitch) & IGTV ads.

Instagram Badges

Introducing Instagram Badges; where fans can participate and show their love via purchasing badges during a live video. Instagram will be offering ‘heart’ badges at $0.99, $1.99 or $4.99 which will highlight fans/purchasers during the Live.

“Badges will appear next to a person’s name throughout the live video. Fans who purchased badges in Live will stand out in comments and unlock additional features, including placement on a creator’s list of badge holders and access to a special heart.”

From as early as next week Instagram will begin to rollout 15-second-long ads in IGTV, the app’s feature long-format video destination. In a bid to support creators’ and push the format further, Instagram are offering a ‘share’ in the advertising revenue generated.

“IGTV ads will initially appear when people click to watch IGTV videos from previews in their feed the Video ads will be build for mobile and up to 15 seconds long.”
