What is Spotify Marquee?

For all the Spotify Premium users out there, you may have noticed a new banner recommending new music appearing as you open the app. This is Spotify’s latest ad platform available to artists, Marquee

The mobile banner, as of today, is the only way for artists to not only reach listeners directly within the paid platform but is also the only re-marketing tool for artists to reach past, present and algorithmically recommended Spotify listeners. When a listener clicks on a Marquee, they can save your music or go to your new release where they can actively stream and discover more of you.

You might be asking - how can you access this new tool? Campaigns are booked and managed directly via your Spotify For Artists account.

Benefits of Spotify Marquee

  • Brand Awareness From Release Day (or later depending on your release marketing strategy)
  • Accessibility / Ease of Use (no ads platform degree required)
  • Small Budget - starting from $150 and can be paused anytime (affordable for most artists and effective for reaching music lovers)
  • Re-marketing capabilities (finally, a way to reach those Spotify Follower numbers we’ve spent years growing)

Is Marquee available to all artists?

Now, there are a few Minimum Requirements/Listener numbers artists must meet;

  • 5K streams over the 28 days or more than 1k followers in at least one market.
  • At least 50% of the songs need to be new to the product type (eg. you can promote an album if 50% of the songs haven’t already been released on an album on Spotify.
  • Minimum budget allocation of A$150 per campaign. You may spend less depending on your audience size, and you can stop your campaign at anytime. More info here

Why some countries may be unavailable?

If any of the following apply, you won’t be able to create a campaign targeting that country.

  • The country does not have enough listeners available to target.
  • The release is a re-release. At least 50% of songs need to be new to Spotify. This excludes remixes, compilations, karaoke, soundalikes, remasters, or re-recordings.
  • A campaign has already been scheduled.
  • More than 18 days have passed since your release went live in that country.
  • The country is not yet available for Marquee targeting.

So you’ve just released a new song (or are about to), you meet all the audience requirements and you're keen to kick off your first Marquee campaign. Let’s walk you through;

Couple of notes to start

  • Marquee campaign can start up to 21 days after the release date
  • Deliver your new release to Spotify at least 8 business days prior to release date.

Bonus! Tips & Tricks to make the most of your campaign;

When to use Spotify Marquee & Best Practises.

  • Marketing 101 - Bright colours attract eyeballs. When choosing your Ad Background colour - Lighter/brighter colours always help capture people's attention when compared to duller, more neutral options.
  • Everybody is different - Each Artist’s release strategy varies based on their unique goals. If you want the quickest and biggest impact, launch your marquee on release day and coordinate your release day marketing. If you’re looking for a delayed boost after your promotional campaign settles, start after the release date.
  • You’ve got fans all around the world, Mr Worldwide? - Customize your target audience per market; do you have a strong presence in your local market? Consider an efficient remarketing campaign. Want to grow your audience in a particular market? Let Spotify's algorithm find new potential listeners.
  • Keep an eye on your release’s analytics, please? If your release is not coming out the gate as you expected, you have up to 21 days after the release date to start your campaign for an extra push.
  • Want to know more about your campaign results? Here’s an 8x page document breaking it all down.
